What is microneedling?

Microneedling is also known as known as Collagen Induction Therapy. It is regarded as a safe, effective, and minimally invasive cosmetic procedure. During your microneedling treatment, micro-punctures are created in your skin. These tiny injuries trigger your body’s natural healing abilities by causing various proteins, potassium, fibroblasts, and other growth factors to converge on the site of the “injury.” This process results in rapid collagen production.

Studies have found that having four microneedling sessions, spaced one month apart, increases collagen and elastin deposits by up to 400%. As the collagen production increases, it causes your skin to plump and thicken. The results are a reduction in the appearance of scars, fine lines, and overall skin improvement.

To increase your results even more; pro-healing, anti-inflammatory growth factors and cytokines derived from laboratory culture of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells are used during treatment and are included in your take home after care kit.

Microneedling Pre- and Post-care instructions:

Contraindications and precautions include: history of keloid or raised scarring; history of eczema, psoriasis, actinic (solar) keratosis, herpes simplex infections, diabetes, and other chronic conditions; presence of raised moles, warts, or any raised lesion in the target area. Absolute contraindications include: scleroderma, collagen vascular diseases or cardiac abnormalities; pustule rosacea or blood clotting problems; active bacterial or fungal infections; immune-suppression; scars less than 6 months old; pregnancy or nursing mothers; active acne in treatment area will be assessed on a case by case basis; use of isotretinoin within the last 6-12 months; and facial fillers/botox used in the past 2 weeks.

Prior to the Microneedling session, please observe the following:

·       No Retin-A products or applications 24 hours prior to your treatment.

·       No prolonged sun exposure to the treatment area prior to your treatment. A microneedling treatment will not be administered on sunburned skin.

·       If you are taking a blood thinner, aspirin, or any other medication that you have the propensity to bleed easily while on, please tell your technician. If you are under a physician’s care and need to discontinue your medications for a few days, always ask your physician prior to each microneedling session.

·       If an active or extreme breakout occurs before treatment, please consult your practitioner.

After your treatment, please be aware and observe the following:

·       Immediately after your treatment, you will look as though you have a slight to severe sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tighter than usual. You may also notice some slight swelling. All of these reactions are normal and should subside after 1-2 hours and normally diminish completely within 24-72 hours.

·       If you are concerned about any reaction, please contact your practitioner and contact your healthcare provider immediately.

After-care instructions for Microneedling Treatment:

·       Do not use any other products besides hyaluronic acid for 24 hours after treatment. This includes makeup and sunscreen. This is very important.

·       After 24 hours, use a gentle cleanser to cleanse for the following 72 hours and gently dry the treated skin. Always make sure that your hands are clean when touching the area.

·       Makeup (mineral recommended) can be applied 24 hours after treatment. Do not apply any makeup with a makeup brush, especially if it is not clean.

·       After the initial 24 hours, apply a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with a minimum SPF30.

·       Do not shave until 48-72 hours after treatment.

·       Use a painkiller, such as Tylenol, if you experience any soreness.

·       Sleep on your back with your head elevated if any swelling is experienced.

·       Do not take any anti-inflammatory medicines for 1 week after each session.

·       Do not use ice and avoid using arnica/bromelain. These may interfere with the natural inflammatory response that is critical for your skin rejuvenation.

·       Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for at least 2 weeks. After 24 hours, always use a sunblock and wear a hat if you are outside.

·       Avoid strenuous exercises that cause sweating as well as jacuzzis, saunas, and hot baths for 48-72 hours. Swimming should be avoided for at least 72 hours.

·       Peeling/flaking may start 3-5 days after treatment. This is due to an increase in cellular turnover. DO NOT pick, scratch, or scrub at the treated skin. You must allow the old skin to flake off naturally and keep it moisturized at all times.

·       You may resume your regular skin care routine after a minimum of 72 hours if your skin no longer feels irritated. Avoid any “active” ingredients such as AHAs, BHAs, retinols, low pH vitamin C, and scrubs for one week. No exfoliation for one week including cleansing brushes.

·       A series of 3-6+ treatments spaced 4-6 weeks are recommended for best results.
